Announcement: New Neaverson Pasold Postdoctoral Fellowship

Thanks to a generous bequest by Catherine Janet Neaverson the Pasold Research Fund is offering a limited series of short-term Postdoctoral Fellowships. These fellowships will be offered biennially between 2025 and 2029 to support postdoctoral research and the start of new research projects in the fields of textile and dress history. 
 
This Fellowship is designed to encourage in-depth research which could potentially result in a book, article, curatorial or further major research project. The Postdoctoral fellowships are designed for applicants who have had their doctoral theses successfully examined within the five years prior to September 2025 and will provide a monthly stipend of £2000 for a period of 3-10 months.

Vacancy for Textile History Exhibition and Visual Media Reviews Editor

Textile History is a peer-reviewed, internationally recognized leading publication for the history of textiles and dress. It is published in the spring and autumn of each year and showcases original research from a wide range of scholarly perspectives including economic, social, art, design, and cultural history, as well as material culture studies from a historical perspective.
The editorial board are seeking to appoint an Exhibition Reviews Editor. The Exhibition Reviews Editor is responsible for commissioning and editing reviews of a range of international exhibitions and other visual media such as film/television documentaries and digital humanities projects relating to the history of textiles. This role comes with a small stipend.

2024 Pasold Conference

Beyond the Blockbuster: Exhibiting Fashion Now

This conference seeks to bring together voices from the museum sector, academia, journalism and beyond to consider the practice of exhibiting fashion, and the role of dress, fashion and textiles in museums today.

The symposium will take place in person at the Museum of London Docklands (Canary Wharf) and the London College of Fashion (East Bank) on May 30th and 31st 2024. There will also be an option for papers to be given online, and for online attendance.

Pasold Research Fund/Taylor & Francis

Textile History Open Access First Publication Award 

Online Open Access allows work to be freely disseminated on publication. It facilitates the wide and speedy circulation of new work, promotes the author and increases the likelihood of citation. 
 
The Pasold Research Fund/Taylor & Francis Open Access First Publication Award for early-career scholars provides for one article per issue to be published in Textile History with free online Gold Open Access. (The article will also be published in a print issue of the journal.)
 
Eligible authors:

  • will not have any prior publications at the time of submission to Textile History

 AND

  • will be either a graduate student or will have graduated within the three years prior to submission and be working in any form of public humanities including, but not limited to, higher education, museums and galleries, and conservation, or as independent scholars.

Submissions are especially encouraged from authors with limited institutional support for Open Access publication.
 
Articles can be submitted at any time and should follow the usual Textile History submission procedure, as part of which you will be asked to indicate that you wish to be considered for the award. All articles will be subject to standard peer review and will be considered for publication in Textile History whether or not they are awarded Open Access. Authors may submit more than one article for consideration but an author may receive the Award only once. Award recipients will be selected by the editors whose decision is final and who reserve the right to withhold the Award if no eligible submissions are received.
