Pasold Research Fellowships

The Pasold Research Fund in collaboration with the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) and the Museum of London (MoL) offers two Fellowships to subsidise the costs of research on the artefacts and/or archives within the two museums, for a period of between two and four weeks.
 

The Research Fellowship schemes are suspended at present due to collections movement at both the V&A and Museum of London.

Pasold/Victoria and Albert Museum Research Fellowship

The Research Fellowship schemes are suspended at present due to collections movement at both the V&A and Museum of London.

The Pasold Research Fund and the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) offer a Fellowship to subsidise the costs of research on the artefacts and/or archives within the V&A, for a period of between two and four weeks.

The V&A holds the national collection of Textiles and Fashion, which spans a period of more than 5,000 years from Predynastic Egypt to the present day. The collection is one of the world's largest and the most wide-ranging, containing over 75,000 individual objects or sets of objects. Other V&A resources available to researchers include the National Art Library and the Archive of Art and Design. The Pasold/V&A Research Fellowship is open to textile historians of any nationality or career stage from registered doctoral candidates to senior scholars, museum professionals and independent researchers.

The Fellowship must take place within the period 1 October 2019 to 30 April 2020, with the dates of stay at the Museum to be mutually agreed between the Fellow and the V&A. Fellows will have opportunities to meet relevant Museum staff during their stay but will not be entitled to formal research guidance or supervision.

Candidates are asked to apply by using the Pasold/V&A Research Fellowship Application Form.  The Application Form asks for a detailed publication plan together with details of the way in which the Fellowship will be spent.

The Fellowship bursary can be put towards the costs of travel or accommodation relating to the period of the Fellowship.
Daily subsistence costs are not an eligible cost.
Daily travel is restricted to £35 and overnight accommodation to £90 per night.
Please note that the V&A and Pasold do not provide accommodation for Fellows.
The Fellow must provide his/her own insurance, and cover any necessary costs related to visas or other permits.

Candidates should be prepared to make an agreement with the V&A about how the results of the Fellowship might be shared/deposited with the Museum for the long-term benefit of their collections. The successful applicant must also be prepared to sign up to standard terms and conditions for accessing collections and for using any images.

 

Pasold/ Museum of London Research Fellowship

The Research Fellowship schemes are suspended at present due to collections movement at both the V&A and Museum of London.

The Pasold Research Fund and the Museum of London offer a fellowship to subsidise the costs of research on the artefacts and/or archives within the textile collections of the Museum of London for a period of between two and four weeks.

The Fellowship is open to textile historians of any nationality or career stage from registered doctoral candidates to senior scholars, museum professionals and independent researchers.

The appointed fellow will be granted access to the collections of the Museum of London. The dates of stay at the Museum must be mutually agreed between the Fellow and the Museum . Fellows will have the opportunity to meet Museum staff, but will not be entitled to formal research guidance or supervision.

Candidates are asked to apply by using the Pasold/Museum of London Research Fellowship Application Form.  The Application Form asks for a detailed publication plan together with details of the way in which the fellowship will be spent.
